Where Edge Meets Fog
IE-01
Chairman & President, OpenFog Consortium; Director, AI & IoT Business Development Microsoft
Where does processing occur? The cloud is drawn by thousands of network architects, but when it comes to managing real-time mission critical information, closer is better. The question then becomes how autonomous is the decision and is it using AI to analyze other resources? This session will help define fog and edge architectures and show how they are working together to advance the technology of managing critical data at scale.

OpenFog Reference Architecture and Beyond
IE-04
Chief Technology Officer and Architecture Chair OpenFog Consortium
The OpenFog Consortium published a Reference Architecture (later re-published as the IEEE 1934 standard) describing many of the key capabilities of fog computing. This talk will discuss the highlights of the OpenFog Reference Architecture, and also introduce what comes next. This includes the to-be-published OpenFog Technical Framework document, that goes much deeper into the technologies that enable fog computing. Finally, we will briefly discuss the architectural implications of the recently-announced merger between the OpenFog Consortium and the Industrial Internet Consortium, and how the OpenFog architectural vision will dovetail with the work underway in the IIC Edge Computing Task Group.

Edge Computing: Remotely Acting on Mission-Critical Decisions in the Field
IE-05
Adj. Professor EKATRA IoT Director of IoT Technologies Ekatra VP Chair of the EdgeX Foundry Technical Steering Committee and Distinguished Engineer & IoT Platform Development Team Lead Dell Technologies
Flexibility and interoperability in the field of IoT software is a paramount objective. The mix of platforms, “things”, applications, intelligence, etc. which are connected in an IoT deployment is extensive. And it’s still growing. How do you create a software platform that connects to a variety of old & new, greenfield and brownfield devices and sensors, allows the incorporation of various edge analytics, communicates to a diverse set of cloud and enterprise platforms like Azure IoT Hub, Google IoT Core, AWS IoT? The solution, as exhibited by the EdgeX Foundry (an open source, vendor neutral IoT platform hosted by the Linux Foundation), is to use a microservice architecture. In this session, learn about EdgeX Foundry, how it works, and see how its microservices architecture can help.
